Autumn in the Saxon Switserland (Sächsische Schweiz)
November 2024

Enjoyed a beautiful autumn weekend in the Saxon Switzerland with three photography friends. The Saxon Switzerland is located on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. And it is known for the dramatic Elbe Sandstone Mountains that stretch out over the border.
I photographed the autumn landscape,  the Bastei Bridge in Germany and the Pravčická Brána in the Czech Republic.

Two fantastic weeks in China and Hong Kong
September 2024

In September 2024 I made a beautiful two-week-phototour to China and Hong Kong.

Led by our excellent photographer and tour guide Chi Hong and together with my wife Michelle and seven photo friends we visited a lot of places: Beijing, Jinshanling, Xi’an, Longji, Yangshuo and Hong Kong.
Two wonderful weeks completely focused on photography (and traditional chinese food)!

Beautiful architecture in Groningen
Augustus 2024

All photos taken with my Fujifilm medium format camera GFX 50s II and the GF 50mm.

The Forum Groningen is a building in the city centre of Groningen, opened in 2019. It has the shape of a 'polyhedron'. The Forum is intended as a general meeting place for residents and visitors of the city of Groningen. It was soon locally called the living room of Groningen.
You will find a library, cinema, debate centre, museum, exhibition spaces, a number of catering facilities, educational facilities and a tourist office.
An extraordinarily system of escalators in the central atrium connects the various floors of the building. A publicly accessible roof terrace with a rooftop cinema was constructed on the 45-metre-high roof.

And a short impression of the beautiful architectural style of the Groninger Museum: the central staircase and a view through an interior window.
The current location opened in 1994. It was designed by several architects including Coop Himmelbau, under the direction of Alessandro Mendini. The design consists of different styles, including deconstructivism and traditional masonry, and represents the diversity of the collection, where one art form is not superior to another.

I also made a triptych and took some street photos in Groningen:

Magical Nocti Lucent Clouds
June 2024

The webcams' predictions came true! Together with photo buddy Frank I saw and captured beautiful NLCs (nocti lucent clouds). It was magical! And what a beautiful combination of the NLCs with a bit of color in the sky and the beautiful silhouettes of the trees on the Beekhuizerzand.

I took the first photo with a little 'light painting' with my headlamp.
And the second photo with an abandoned burning campfire in the foreground, which gave a beautiful composition. We extinguished the campfire with sand after taking the photo. But how stupid can people be to leave this campfire burning in the middle of a beautiful nature reserve...
The last photo was the first I took that night and shows a tentative start of the NLCs at night.

All photos taken with my Fujifilm GFX 50s II with GFX 20-35mm (16-28mm FF equivalent). Long exposures.

And this photo had to be in format 3-1. What a magic!

War Memorial Harderwijk
June 2024

No wind and a lot of color in the sky. A great moment to photograph the war memorial in Harderwijk after sunset.
It’s a memorial for fallen Allied pilots. The four-meter-high monument depicts an airplane crashing into the water. During the Second World War, 117 Allied airmen died near Harderwijk.

Fujifilm GFX 50s II with GFX 20-35mm @35mm (28mm FF equivalent). Long exposure.

A week at beautiful Madeira
May 2024

A week at Madeira with Floor, Thea, Jeroen and Frank. A week dedicated to photography. Not much sleep (we were out before sunrise almost every morning) but enjoyed it very much!

And what a beautiful island Madeira is!

First a '5-photo-impression' in black and white with mysterious trees (Florestal do Fanal and inlands), a beautiful coast (São Lourenço and Porto Moniz) and beautiful mountain peaks above the clouds (Pico do Areeiro).
Photos taken with my Fujifilm GFX 50s II with the GF 20-35mm, the GF 45-100mm and the GF 250mm with 1.4x converter.

And this lady wanted to pose for a moment at Florestal do Fanal (but she was not alone...):

A beautiful morning in May

Sunrise at 'Werk aan de Groeneweg'

A slightly misty morning at the beautiful 'Werk aan de Groeneweg'. It is a Dutch position along the Lek near the village of Schalkwijk. The position is part of the New Dutch Waterline and built during the mobilization of the First World War.

Photographing birds on Texel
April 2024

Together with Klaas Ruigewaard we enjoyed a private bird photography workshop on the beautiful island of Texel under the guidance of wildlife photographer Alexander Koenders.

I photographed these spoonbills in high-key in the Slufter nature reserve with the Fujifilm X-T5 and the XF 150-600mm @600mm (900mm FF).

From early in the morning to late in the afternoon I photographed birds in various places on Texel (including Slufter, Wagejot, Mokbaai).

Playing with light, trees and my camera early in the morning in the Speulderbos near Garderen and Ermelo. I used some ICM techniques (horizontal panning and zooming).

Ice Crystals
March 2023

The Ermelo Heatherfield early in the morning. It was really fantastic: the beautiful sunrise, the light and the beautiful ice crystals of the rime on the heath plants. Unbelievable! These ice crystals are less than a millimeter in size, I almost hit the rime with my lens!
Fujifilm GFX 50s II with GF 50mm and with the macro extension ring MCEX-45G.
